I primarily use a process called sublimation. It infuses the ink to the product making it dishwasher safe or washing machine safe. Now I leave it to you to get the right item to the right cleaning machine. I don't recommend putting mugs into your washing machine, but hey I don't judge.

It should last for the life of the product. Going back to the mug example, if you drop the mug and shatter it into a million pieces, the sublimation is still on those pieces but your days drinking out of that mug were numbered from the start.

Everything in life has trade offs, and sublimation is no different. To use the magic that is sublimation on a shirt, you need to use a polyester shirt and that shirt needs to be light in color. While you still infuse the ink on a dark shirt, you cannot see the ink so why bother? Cotton shirts do not possess the right stuff to hold onto the ink so I don't use cotton. Yes you can sublimate on special vinyl that is fixed to the shirt so in that way you can use cotton shirts; however you will feel the vinyl. Not that it is a problem and I use only quality vinyl that will not flake off even after repeated washings.
